Closing the loop on plastic fiber waste

by Marcel Alberts, Managing Director, Healix BV

Healix helps breaking the plastic wave by closing the loop on plastic fiber waste. We are the first generation to know we are destroying our planet and the last that can do anything about it. We are convinced it is possible to change our industry for the sake of a more sustainable. During the presentation we will go in detail on the specific projects we are running to close the loop on plastic fiber waste.

Interview

What drives you?

As a father of two sons I am deeply inspired by the proverb “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children” and therefor determined to make a significant positive impact by setting up Healix BV.

Why should the delegate attend your presentation?

The only way to solve the plastic problem is by working together. We want to inspire other people to stop talking and start doing and jointly take action. Together we can create a movement and make a dent in the universe.

What emerging technologies/trends do you see as having the greatest potential in the short and long run?

Demand for recycled plastic expected to grow on the long-term. Previously plastic was difficult to recycle, advanced technical solutions -both mechanical and chemical- create the opportunity to upscale plastic recycling rates and provide technologies for different types of plastics including plastic fibers.

What kind of impact do you expect them to have?

We will see a clear increase in the amount of plastic being recycled this decade.

What are the barriers that might stand in the way?

Low oil prices make virgin plastic financially more attractive

We collect, sort, shred, wash and reprocess used twines, ropes, nets and other plastic fiber waste into pristine infinity polymers for the global manufacturing chain (what).
